ALL-Star cheerleading
What is All-Star Cheer?
For the recreational cheerleaders, the prime focus is to enjoy cheering as a sport, and understand the fundamentals of both sideline and competitive cheer. For school cheerleading (as seen in the USA), the main focus is on providing spirit and support for the other athletic teams at their school, although there can be a competitive element. Finally, all-star cheer focuses exclusively on the competition element of cheer. It involves athletes competing as a group, performing a routine composed of tumbling, stunting/lifts, pyramids, dance and jump segments, and is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK, soon to be in the Olympics! All-Star Cheer differs from the pompom shaking, football crowd leading cheer we see in the movies! It’s a team sport that requires flexibility and strength and is all about working together as a team.

BUILDING LIFELONG SKILLS THROUGH CHEER
At Sylk, we believe in developing more than just athletic talent—we’re here to shape confident, responsible individuals with skills that last a lifetime.
Our athletes grow through commitment, dedication, sportsmanship, responsibility, and time management—all within a positive, supportive environment. They gain confidence, build a healthy self-image, and learn to respect themselves and others.
But Sylk is more than training and competition. It’s a community where long-term friendships are formed and personal growth is celebrated.
As our athletes progress, they can take on the role of junior coaches, learning to teach independently, lead with confidence, and guide their own teams to success.
At Sylk, we’re not just building better athletes—we’re building future leaders!
What qualities do I need to become an All-Star Cheerleader?
In our recreational team our role is to help you build the skills you need to move on to one of our All-Star teams. This means that anyone can get involved no matter what their skills are.
For an athlete to be selected to an All-Star team they must have developed a range of the skills already needed to be part of a team such as
* Tumbling skills
* Adequate fitness
* Confidence in dance and performance
* Adequate flexibility and strength
Depending on what level team you wish to join, these skills will become more challenging. However, not all skills are needed to join a team. Sometimes we need someone who is brilliant and just one role to complete the puzzle!
Head Coach & founder
A former cheerleader with United Allstars Manchester, Amy has been building her cheerleading empire at Sylk since 2009. What began with recreational teams grew into something bigger, with Sylk entering its first competitive season in 2019.
Throughout her career, Amy has continuously expanded her qualifications and expertise — including certifications in gymnastics and tumbling, attendance at multiple coaching conferences, and the completion of many cheer coaching credentials. She has worked with children of all ages and abilities, bringing a well-rounded and inclusive approach to coaching.
Amy also brings first-hand experience as both a base and flyer, and has even judged at national and European cheer championships, including Jamfest.
Alongside Amy’s leadership, Sylk hosts regular workshops with outside coaches to keep athletes learning, growing, and staying on the cutting edge of cheer.
